Afghanistan will play their first two matches on June 3 and 7 against Uganda and New Zealand at Guyana. Their next fixture is against Papua New Guinea on June 13 in Trinidad, followed by their last group-stage match against West Indies on June 17 in Saint Lucia.

Afghanistan are one of the dark horses competing in the tournament. Having debuted at the T20 World Cup in 2010, they have made it to the Super Eight stage in each of their last three attempts in contrast to their first-round exits in their first three shots. Their most famous win in the tournament came in 2016 when they beat that year’s champions West Indies in a Super 10 game.

Their success in the ODI World Cup last year will provide them with a lot of inspiration. Although Afghanistan missed out on a semifinal berth by a whisker due to Glenn Maxwell’s historic double ton proving to be a road-blocker, they finished sixth ahead of former titleholders England and Sri Lanka.

Rashid Khan will lead a 15-member squad as Afghanistan will seek glory.
