England, South Africa, the West Indies – and despite staying winless after two matches, the USA – are all in the run for the semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Here is what the points table looks like after the West Indies-USA clash.

2024 Men’s T20 World Cup Super Eights Group 2 points table after West Indies v USA
Team Matches Won Lost Points Net run rate
South Africa 2 2 0 4 +0.625
West Indies 2 1 1 2 +1.814
England 2 1 1 2 +0.412
USA 2 0 2 0 -2.908

Matches left in Group 2

England v USA: Bridgetown, June 23 (10.30 am local)
West Indies v South Africa: North Sound, June 23 (8.30 pm local)

Qualification scenario for South Africa

South Africa need one point from the match against the West Indies to qualify. A defeat, on the other hand, may eliminate them if England (now +0.412) go past South Africa’s net run rate (now +0.625) if and when they beat the USA.

Qualification scenario for West Indies

The West Indies have an excellent net run rate, but if England beat the USA, they will have to beat South Africa. The margin will become irrelevant.

Qualification scenario for England

Currently third in the points table, England need to beat the USA by about 21 runs or with 14 balls to spare (the numbers may change depending on how many they score, but only marginally) to go above South Africa on net run rate. They will qualify if they do that – though their rank will depend on the outcome of South Africa versus West Indies.

However, there is a rain threat looming over their match against the USA. If the game is washed out, they will have to back South Africa to beat the West Indies.

Qualification scenario for USA

Down but not out of this yet, the USA need to beat England by a truly colossal margin and expect South Africa to do the same to the West Indies. Improbable, but not impossible.
