Rohit Sharma injury update

Rohit Sharma reportedly faced yet another injury scare while practising in the nets on Friday before the much-anticipated 2024 T20 World Cup fixture between India and Pakistan in East Meadow, New York.

Rohit Sharma hit on the thumb

According to RevSports, the India captain was facing throwdowns from Sri Lankan specialist Nuwan Seneviratne when a ball struck his left thumb. Rohit was immediately attended to by medical staff. Fortunately for India, the injury was nothing serious. He shifted to a different net to resume batting.

Rohit suffered a shoulder blow vs Ireland

The pitch at the Nassau County Stadium in New York has hit the headlines for its uneven bounce and slow outfield. Earlier in the week, India registered an eight-wicket win during their campaign opener against Ireland. Rohit, who was one of the few batters to look relatively fluent on the difficult wicket, suffered an injury after being hit on the bicep by a rising ball by fast-bowler Josh Little.

Rohit’s had to retire hurt at the score of 52, having struck three sixes and four boundaries in his knock till then. He later revealed the extent of his injury during the post-game presentation, saying, "It was a sore arm."

A day after the match, the International Cricket Council (ICC) acknowledged the concerns regarding the pitches used in New York in the ongoing event and assured that they are trying to find a solution.

"T20 Inc and the ICC recognise that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted," read an ICC statement.

It added: "The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday's game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches."

Will Rohit Sharma be fit for the India-Pakistan game?

India are yet to announce whether Rohit will be available for the high-voltage match on Sunday. If he misses out, Hardik Pandya, Rohit’s deputy, will be expected to fill in his position.

India have the option of Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal as two batters on the bench, if Rohit were to miss out against Pakistan.
