Watch: Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan was constantly teasing Fazalhaq Farooqi as he was giving an interview to Ian Bishop following his Player of the Match-winning effort against PNG that helped his team earn a place in the Super Eight of the T20 World Cup.
Afghanistan earned a place in the T20 World Cup Super Eights for the first time after beating Papua New Guinea by seven wickets in Tarouba. With three wickets including Lega Siaka and Sese Bau off consecutive deliveries, Fazalhaq Farooqi won the Player of the Match.
Needing a win to make it into the Super Eights and knock out New Zealand, the Afghans finished the chase convincingly and currently top the table in Group C.
After receiving the award, Farooqi ent up to speak with commentator Ian Bishop. Winning captain Rashid Khan, waiting to be interviewed, started to tease Farooqi. Standing behind the broadcast cameras, Rashid mumbled a few words of banter at his bowler, who, at one stage, paused midway in his speech, turned to Rashid, and said: “You shut up” with a smile.
Bishop clarified in jest: “Just to be clear, that’s not me who he was talking to,” to which Farooqi said: “Rashid, Rashid.”
After Farooqi was done with the interview, Bishop said Rashid would be proud of him as captain, to which he answered: “He’s trying to make me laugh but I’m not laughing.”
Afghanistan’s next game will be against the West Indies on June 17 in the Group C match. Their first Super Eight encounter will be against India three days later in Barbados.
