The first semi-final of the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup is set to get underway later today (June 26) under clear skies in Tarouba, with Afghanistan and South Africa both bidding to make history.
Rain interruptions have disrupted several matches at the T20 World Cup 2024, with the second semi-final between England and India also under threat of showers. While there is no reserve day for the second semi-final, there is for the first, so in the unlikely event that a full match is unable to take place, the match can either be completed or played in its entirety tomorrow (June 27).
Afghanistan will be playing in their first ICC tournament semi-final ever, after beating both Australia and Bangladesh in the Super Eights to finish second in Group One. South Africa will be bidding to reach their first-ever men's T20 World Cup final, and retained an unbeaten run in the competition in the Super Eights.
The match will be played in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. The venue has hosted four matches so far in the competition, all coming in the group stage. In those games, which were played by the teams in Group C, the surface appeared relatively difficult to score on, with the highest score from a 20 over innings in those games being 149-9.
Weather forecast in Tarouba for semi-final one
The match is set to begin at 8.30pm local time, with Google weather predicting below a 10 per cent chance of rain for the duration of the game. Temparatures will also be slightly cooler than they have been for other matches in the tournament, averaging in the mid 20s degrees celcius throughout the game.
The Met Office forecast also predicts limitted chances of rain for the fixture, with less than a 5 per cent probability of showers throughout the match.
The BBC Weather forecast, however, is the most optimistic of them all, predicting a zero per cent chane of rain for the entire game and much cooler temparatures than the other forecasts.
