The Nassau County Stadium is one of the three venues in the USA which will jointly host the T20 World Cup 2024 alongside the West Indies. Here's everything you need to know about the newly-built cricket venue, including its location, makers, pitch and outfield manufacturers and more.

For the first time in cricket’s history, a World Cup is set to take in the uncharted shores of the USA. The country will host a total of 16 matches across three venues in Texas, New York and Florida.

Where is the Nassau County Stadium located?

The newly built facility is in Eisenhower Park, almost 48 km east of Manhattan, New York. It is the first modular cricket stadium in the world, like the Stadium 974 used for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Who made the New York T20 World Cup venue?

The project was undertaken by Populous, an architecture company famous for designing the Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest cricket stadium in the world. The firm started the site work as late as January this year and completed the stadium from scratch before its tournament debut on June 3, when Sri Lanka pit against South Africa.

The brand also has prior experience of developing the Yankee Stadium in the US state and EPL venue Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Who is behind the pitches and outfield manufacturing in Nassau County Stadium?

The wicket on the Nassau County Ground will be a drop-in one, in the mould of the ones used in Adelaide Oval in Australia. The head curator of the Adelaide Oval has led the manufacturing of the pitches, with the outfield developed by US-based sports turf experts experts. They are shipped from Adelaide to Georgia and then to Florida, where they are curated for four months and brought in via road to New York.

How's the Nassau County Stadium different from any other regular cricket venue?

Created for temporary usage with steel and aluminium as composite materials, the venue has all the safety features and facilities of a traditional stadium. It can deconstructed easily after the tournament ends. The New York cricket venue can accommodate 34,000 spectators at one go.

The temporary grandstands used in the Las Vegas Grand Prix last year have been remodelled for the global cricket competition.
