Explosive opener Stirling will captain Ireland in his country’s eighth T20 World Cup appearance. They have won seven out of 25 matches so far, with their most recent one coming in 2022. In the previous edition, they caused an upset against titleholders England in a rain-affected match, thanks to Andrew Balbirnie’s 47-ball 62.
Balbirnie features in the core group this time as well, including experienced campaigner George Dockrell in their ranks. Ireland’s batting unit also boasts the promising Harry Tector, with Lorcan Tucker and Neil Rock as their wicketkeeping options.
Meanwhile, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany and George Dockrell are the preferred all-rounders for their campaign.
The squad is largely the same from Ireland’s previous T20I series against Pakistan and the tri-nation encounters against Netherlands and Scotland, with Josh Little being the latest addition.
Little is expected to spearhead Ireland’s pace arsenal following his stint in the IPL, with Mark Adair as his support. Wrist-spinner Ben White and all-rounder Gareth Delany will be Ireland’s frontline tweakers in the tournament.
