After over two weeks of electrifying performances in the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Super Eights stage has started. It is worth noting that the top eight sides from the previous round have directly qualified for the 2026 edition. While most of the expected teams are in, USA's entry has been a rise of gargantuan proportion.
Super Eights: What do the groups look like?
The teams have carried their seedings from the group stage and have been placed into two groups. Inaugural World Champions India are slotted in Group One alongside Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Here is how the groups are divided:
Group 1: India, Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh
Group 2: USA, England, West Indies, South Africa
India’s path to the second round was mostly smooth. Playing their three out of four matches in New York, India started with a comprehensive win against Ireland on a treacherous pitch. Against Pakistan, they recorded their lowest-ever defended total in men’s T20Is. The match against the USA was evenly poised at one stage, but Suryakumar Yadav amended his batting approach, scoring a 49-ball 50 not out to take India home. Their last game against Canada was a washout.
