Today's T20 World Cup match preview

Afghanistan v India, Super Eights

Where: Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados

When: June 20, 10:30 am local time

Afghanistan will lock horns against India in a mouthwatering Super Eights clash in Barbados, a venue that has been relatively better suited to batting in a low-scoring group stage.

India were the favourites to make it to the second round, and they did it with a dominant win against Ireland on a treacherous New York pitch followed by a victory in a low-scoring thriller against Pakistan. The match against the USA could have gone either way as well but India held their nerves to guarantee them a spot. Their last game against Canada was a washout.

Afghanistan's Super Eights advancement has been their best performance so far in the tournament. In a format that hasn’t been their forte, Afghanistan would take a lot of inspiration from their convincing win against New Zealand, which ultimately played a decisive role in their qualification.

T20 World Cup results: Who won yesterday's match?

South Africa vs United States: South Africa won by 18 runs.

West Indies vs England: England won by eight wickets

IND vs AFG: Who are the key players?

Virat Kohli

The batting maestro is due for a big one. He is yet to get a double-digit score, with his performance reading 1,4,0 in the first three outings. That could be largely due to the slower surfaces of the States. Expect Virat Kohli to roar back to form.

Rishabh Pant

Pant has carried India's batting during the low-scoring group stage. Returning from a prolonged injury, he hasn’t shied away from playing his shots at three.

Fazalhaq Farooqi

Farooqi has been the highest wicket-taker (12) in the competition so far. India’s historical weakness against left-arm seamer at the top makes him a threat.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Gurbaz is what Pant has been for India, leading the run-chart for his side. The formidable opening duo of him and Ibrahim Zadran has done the bulk of the run-scoring for Afghanistan.

Pitch report and ground conditions

Bridgetown has been one of the batting conducive wickets this tournament, where one of three scores over 200 was seen. The sky seems clear, possibly ruling out any chances of any rain interruption. The boundary dimensions here are average, with straight boundaries about 64–65 m long and the square boundaries at 67–68 m.
