Qualification scenario - South Africa
South Africa have advanced to the Super Eights after Nepal’s match against Sri Lanka was washed out on June 11. Only Bangladesh can match them on points, but that is of little consequence, given that the Super Eights groups are determined by pre-tournament seedings.
Qualification scenario - Bangladesh
Bangladesh massively boosted their chance of securing qualification by beating the Netherlands today (June 13), though Nepal and the Netherlands can still catch them on points. Their most likely competition are still the Netherlands, who face Sri Lanka in the final match of the group. If Bangladesh beat Nepal, they will be through on six points. However, if they lose to Nepal and the Netherlands beat Sri Lanka they will both finish on four points, and qualification would come down to net run rate.
Qualification scenario - Netherlands
Currently both the Netherlands and Bangladesh have similar NRRs. If both finish on four points – by Bangladesh losing to Nepal and the Netherlands beating Sri Lanka – the Netherlands’ NRR would probably go above Bangladesh’s. The Netherlands also have the benefit of playing last, meaning they will know the exact equation they need going into the Sri Lanka match. However, if Bangladesh beat Nepal or the match is washed out, the Netherlands will be eliminated.
Qualification scenario - Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka are out of contention for the Super Eights, and the best they can hope for is to avoid a third-place finish. If Sri Lanka beat the Netherlands in their last match, they will finish on three points and will potentially be able to finish ahead of Nepal if the latter lose their final match. If both sides win or lose, the equation will come down to NRR.
