Today's T20 World Cup match preview

England v South Africa, Super Eights

Where: Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, Gros Islet, Saint Lucia

When: June 21, 10:30 am local time

England and South Africa will meet in a Super Eights clash of this World Cup in Saint Lucia on Friday. Since this has been the best batting track at the 2024 T20 World Cup so far, heavy run-scoring can be expected.

England, peaking at the right time, are looking ominous for the opposition. They were on the brink of a group-stage elimination at one stage but have not looked back since annihilating Oman in a record chase. The defending champions’ convincing win against the West Indies in the first Super Eights fixture was a near-perfect performance for them.

South Africa are yet to lose in the tournament, but , their campaign hasn’t been as smooth as the points table shows. The results against Bangladesh, the Netherlands and Nepal in the previous round could have gone against them, but they managed to hold their nerves to win all. They started their Super Eights stage with a win against co-hosts USA.

T20 World Cup results: Who won yesterday's match?

India vs Afghanistan: India won by 47 runs.

Bangladesh vs Australia: Match still in progress

ENG vs SA: Who are the key players?

Phil Salt

Given the batting-friendly surface, expect Salt to go all guns blazing from the word go. His 47-ball 87 not out against the West Indies will give him confidence.

Jofra Archer

Archer has been the pick of the bowlers for England at this World Cup, with six wickets at an average of 16.83 while going at only 6.58 an over.

Heinrich Klaasen

Klaasen will be useful in maximising the advantage in the middle overs against England’s spin duo of Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, both of whom squeezed the run rate against West Indies.
