Bravo joins Afghanistan coaching staff

On Tuesday (May 21), Afghanistan Cricket Board announced that they had appointed former West Indies captain Dwayne Bravo as their bowling consultant for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States of America.

According to the official release, Bravo will link up with the Afghan squad at their preparatory camp ahead of the tournament. They have already arrived in St Kitts and Nevis and are supposed to start a ten-day preparation camp before their T20 World Cup campaign begins. Bravo is expected to join the squad at the camp.

Bravo will bring local expertise

Two-time T20 World Cup winner Bravo will be an important addition to the Afghanistan coaching unit, led by former England international Jonathan Trott.

The highest wicket-taker in the history of T20 cricket with 625 dismissals, Bravo will add a lot of value to the Afghan squad, particularly with his knowledge of local West Indian conditions and of the West Indian players, whom Afghanistan will face in the first round.

Afghanistan are placed in Group C at the T20 World Cup alongside New Zealand, West Indies, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda. They will start their tournament on June 3 against Uganda, followed by a clash against New Zealand on June 7. On June 13, they’ll face Uganda, before squaring off against the hosts on June 17.

All four of their first round matches will be held in the Caribbean, making Bravo’s presence behind the scenes all the more vital.

On the field, Afghanistan will be led by Rashid Khan, with seniors like Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, and Najibullah Zadran for company.
