Australia have named their 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Mitchell Marsh will lead them.

Australia named their squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup today (May 1). Notable omissions include Steve Smith, Matthew Short, and despite his terrific form in the ongoing IPL, Jake Fraser-McGurk.

Instead, they have backed David Warner as Travis Head’s potential opening partner. Interestingly, following an injury to Warner, Fraser-McGurk replaced him in the Delhi Capitals starting XI and has dominated the league since.

Mitchell Marsh, their colleague at the franchise, returned home with an injury halfway through the IPL but will be fit in time to lead, bat at one-drop, and if needed, bowl seam.

Marsh is one of several all-rounders in the Australian squad. Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, and Glenn Maxwell, explosive batters all, are capable of bowling four overs as well, adding to depth in both departments. Rounding off the batting unit will be Tim David.

Josh Inglis’ power-hitting skills will make him the first-choice wicketkeeper, though Australia have also included Matthew Wade as backup. Adam Zampa will be the lead spinner of the side, with Maxwell’s off-breaks for support. All-rounder Ashton Agar, the other spinner, may make it if the surface assists spin.

The pace unit predictably consists of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc. Rounding off the quartet is Nathan Ellis, renowned for his bowling skills at the death.
