Watch: Virat Kohli produced a stunning one-handed catch during India’s T20 World Cup warm-up game against Australia.
The dismissal occurred in the final over of Australia’s run-chase. The hosts, chasing 187, required seven runs off four balls. Mohammed Shami – who was bowling his first over of the game – started with a full delivery to Pat Cummins. The Australian cleared his front leg and smashed the ball towards long on. For a while, it felt that the ball would comfortably clear the fence. Kohli, though, had other ideas. The former India captain leapt into the air, flung out his right palm and completed a sensational catch.
India, one of the favourites for the T20 World Cup in the T20 odds, rode that wave of momentum, effecting a run out off the very next ball. Shami then returned with a couple of pin-point yorkers to dismiss Josh Inglis and Kane Richardson, handing India a confidence-boosting six-run victory against the defending champions. Prior to the catch, Kohli had also run Tim David out spectacularly in the penultimate over.
