Watch: Virat Kohli unleashed a sumptuous six over deep cover off Chris Woakes during the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final between India and England in Adelaide.
Put in to bat first, India went through a sluggish powerplay, losing KL Rahul and managing just 38 runs. A rusty-looking Rohit Sharma didn’t appear at his best as England’s quicks operated on nagging lengths, rarely giving anything away.
Kohli, who came at the fall of Rahul’s wicket in the second over, combined with Rohit to stabilise India’s innings, even though the boundaries dried up. Off the first ball of the third over, Woakes sent down an over-pitched delivery: Kohli promptly launched it over the deep cover fence to bring up India’s first six of the innings.
The shot seemed to have briefly eased things up: Rohit hit back-to-back fours next over, but the lack of boundaries continued to be an issue [in first six overs, India hit just four fours and one six]. Until the tenth over, Kohli’s six was the only one of the innings.
The India batter, currently leading the run-charts at the World Cup, hit another picturesque six in the same region against the Netherlands during the Super 12 stage.
