Suryakumar, batting on 50 off 32 at the time, looked to finish India’s innings on a high. The fourth ball the 20th over, bowled by Kane Richardson, was a full toss that he tried to flick towards leg. However, he was early on the shot, and the ball lobbed back to the bowler after hitting the bottom of the bat. The mode of dismissal left Richardson grinning sheepishly as Suryakumar walked back with an embarrassed smile.
During the innings break, Richardson spoke about the funny dismissal, telling the broadcasters, “I think it’s the first time he’s missed the middle of the bat ever against us.”
India ended with 186-7 in their 20 overs, with KL Rahul top-scoring with a 33-ball 57. Australia seemed to on course for most of their innings, but lost four wickets off the last four balls of the innings and were bowled out for 180.
