Watch: Hardik Pandya unleashed back-to-back sixes off Chris Jordan – including a breathtaking helicopter shot – on his way to a whirlwind fifty during the India-England T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final.
Pandya, who had scores of 2 (3), 5 (6) and 18 (18) leading into the game, saved his best for the knockout stage, top scoring with a 33-ball 63 and propelling India into to 168-6. The knock was vital given that India were 62-2 at the halfway stage, struggling to get going through a sluggish passage. Off his first nine balls, Pandya managed just four runs, and off his first 15, just 13.
Virat Kohli anchored the innings with a fifty, but it was Pandya who gave it impetus. The change of gears came at the start of the 18th over, when Pandya hit consecutive sixes off Jordan. The first one was a short-of-length delivery that was duly dispatched over deep mid-wicket. The second one was a standout stroke: Jordan’s attempted yorker didn’t quite land where he would have wanted. It drifted to the leg stump, and Pandya used his wrists to whip it into the deep square-leg stands.
Jordan managed to dismiss Kohli later in the over that cost 15 runs. India scored 68 runs in the final five, with Pandya scoring 54 off 21 in that period.
