Watch: Shakib Al Hasan produced a moment of magic to turn the tide in Bangladesh’s favour during a see-saw battle with Zimbabwe at the Gabba, running out Sean Williams in the penultimate over of their T20 World Cup fixture.

With 26 runs needed off the final two overs, the Bangladesh captain took up the responsibility and brought himself on to bowl. Ryan Burl took a single off the first ball of the over. The third ball, meanwhile, saw Sean Williams smash a boundary past extra cover. The equation was then reduced to 19 runs required off 9 balls. Shakib bowled an excellent yorker, which Williams could only dig out into the off side. The Bangladesh captain sprinted across to his right, gathered the ball and threw down the stumps in the same fielding motion.

What made Shakib’s run out even more impressive that he was off-balance and effectively had almost one stump to aim at. There was a lot of pressure on that moment, too, considering Williams had been brilliant throughout Zimbabwe’s innings. Yet, just when Bangladesh needed their captain to stand up, he produced something special and helped Bangladesh take a giant stride towards victory. Further drama ensued in the final over. However, Bangladesh held their nerve to scrape past the finish line.

“Simply magic”, said the commentator on air.
