Watch: South Africa’s Anrich Nortje was his usually fiery self against Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup game in Sydney, picking up career-best figures of 4-10 – the spell including the wicket of captain Shakib Al Hasan with a 94mph delivery.
Powered by Rilee Rossouw’s 109 and Quinton de Kock’s 63, South Africa posted 205-5 at the SCG after opting to bat. In reply, Bangladesh raced to a quick start, getting 26 in the first two overs, before Nortje came in as first-change and struck first ball, sending Soumya Sarkar back. Three balls later, he dismissed Najmul Shanto as well, regularly hitting in excess of 90mph on the speed gun.
Returning for his next over, Nortje sent Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan packing with a 94mph ball on the stumps. Shakib shuffled across towards off stump as he looked to flick the ball down the leg side but was probably beaten by the pace. When the umpire raised his finger, Shakib momentarily decided to go for a review, almost bringing his hands together for the ‘T’ sign, before withdrawing at the last moment. Nortje ended with figures of 3.3-0-10-4.
South Africa won the game by 104 runs, and are now second on the Group 2 points table, behind India, with three points. Here’s the complete points table for the tournament.
