New Zealand qualified for the final of the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2021. However, in the final, they lost the all-important toss in Dubai, and managed only 172-4. Australia overhauled the target with eight wickets and seven balls in hand to clinch their maiden title. In the 2022 edition, New Zealand are in Group 1 of the Super 12s alongside Afghanistan, England, and New Zealand. The team that tops Group A and the one that finishes second in Group B of the first round will join the quartet.
New Zealand have had an outstanding 2022 – though, to be fair, they have not faced any of the top sides so far. After their lone match against the Netherlands was washed out, New Zealand won 3-0 in Ireland, 2-0 in Scotland, 2-0 in the Netherlands, and 2-1 in the West Indies. In October, just ahead of the T20 World Cup, they will host Pakistan and Bangladesh for a Twenty20 Internationals Tri-Series.
New Zealand will then fly out to Australia. Ahead of the main tournament, they will play two warm-up matches, against South Africa and India in separate grounds in Brisbane.
