Sri Lanka had a tricky start to their World Cup campaign, disintegrating against Namibia in the opening match of the tournament. Wins against the UAE and the Netherlands, however, saw them safely through to the next round as winners of Group A. The Asia Cup champions will be looking for more wickets from Wanindu Hasaranga, who took three in each of Sri Lanka’s last two matches, and runs from Kusal Mendis after his 79 off 44 balls against the Netherlands.
Ireland are back in the second round of the tournament for the first time since 2009, largely thanks to two superb batting efforts. Firstly, coming off the back of a first-match defeat to Zimbabwe, Curtis Campher and George Dockrell shared a spectacular 119-run stand to guide their side home against Scotland, followed by Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker calmly seeing Ireland home to knock out the West Indies.
The match Group One clash will get underway at 3pm local time at the Bellerive Oval.
