Pakistan, semi-finalists of the 2021 edition, were defeated by England in their first warm-up match by six wickets. Batting first, the Shadab Khan-led team put on 160-8 on the board, with usual openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan not taking part. England chased down the target with 5.2 overs to spare as Harry Brook and Sam Curran played key roles to take their side through.
Afghanistan played their first warm-up match against Bangladesh, winning the game by 62 runs. Ibrahim Zadran and skipper Mohammad Nabi’s 46 (39) and 41* (17) respectively helped them post 160-7. In response, Shakib Al Hasan’s team misfired, ending up on 98-9 in 20 overs. Fazalhaq Farooqi finished with three wickets.
The PAK v AFG warm-up match will be played in Brisbane and will begin at 1pm local time.
