Adam Zampa’s 5-19 helped Australia crush Bangladesh in their Group 1 encounter in the T20 World Cup at Dubai. The impeccable performance was a bittersweet affair for the leggie: Zampa helped kick in the slide of the Bangladeshi lower-order but missed out on a personal landmark in the process.

Off the last two deliveries of the 11th over, he got rid of Shamim Hossain and Mahedi Hasan to leave Bangladesh reeling at 62-7. He was taken out of the attack after that over, and Australia managed to pick another wicket in the next three overs. He was brought back again at the beginning of the 15th over.

He got the very first ball to go turn away from the left-handed Taskin, who tried to go for the drive. The ball took the edge and went straight towards the gloves of Matthew Wade. However, the keeper wasn’t able to hold on to the offering, and ended up spilling the ball.

The bowler was left bemused at this dropped catch, and instantly reminded Wade that it was a hat-trick chance.

“That was my hat-trick ball,” Zampa was heard saying on the stump-mic.

Matthew Wade responded nonchalantly, “Yeah, I tried to catch it.”

In the post-match presentation, Zampa stated that he wasn’t sure if anyone else remembered that his hat-trick was on. However, he backed Wade as well, stating that he wouldn’t have as many wickets but for Wade’s hands.
