Mahmudullah had begun to answer a question when a noisy Scottish dressing room launched into their anthem ‘Flower of Scotland’. He patiently waited as the celebrations went on, continuing only once the decibel levels had reduced.

Scotland’s celebrations were wholly deserved after they had pulled off arguably their most important World Cup victory of all time and put themselves in the strongest possible position to qualify for the Super 12s.

Batting first, Scotland had at one stage been reduced to 53-6 before Chris Greaves scored a vital 45 off 28 balls to lift the Scots to a total of 140.

In reply, Bangladesh were immediately pegged back as they lost two early wickets before the experience of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim had the Tigers in the driving seat at 65-2 off 11 overs. But in only his second ever international match and to add to his 45 with the bat, Greaves dismissed both set batters to put Scotland back in the driving seat and continue what was a sensational performance for the Scotsman.

Scotland continued to edge ahead in the contest from that moment but the game remained in the balance. However, eventually the rate became too much for Bangladesh and they needed 24 off the last over from which they could only manage 17 giving the Scots a famous six run victory.
