Chasing West Indies’ 142-7, Bangladesh were left needing 13 off the last over that was to be bowled by Russell during the Group One game in Sharjah. A dramatic set of six deliveries followed, with a missed run-out off the second ball, a dropped catch off the fourth, and a misfield off the fifth betraying the nerves jangling for West Indies. Russell, however, was the coolest player on the park, nailing his yorkers throughout and keeping Bangladesh boundary-less throughout the first five balls. The equation came down to four off the last delivery, with Mahmudullah, who was batting on 31 off 23, on strike.

Russell managed to control his nerves under pressure as he sent down a pin-point yorker to help his side to a crucial win. Mahmudullah was unable to get bat to ball as he looked to swing through the leg-side, as Bangladesh lost by three runs.

Both teams entered the game on the back of two losses, and though Bangladesh are still not out of the tournament, their chances of qualifying now look grim considering their NRR of -1.069.
