The Scots found themselves 53-6 at one point, only for an all-round show from Chris Greaves and an air-tight combined team bowling performance to drag them to victory.
Greaves, playing just his second T20I, and in the side largely for his bowling, hit 46 off 28 to drag Scotland up to 140-9. Given Oman had chased 131 without losing a wicket earlier in the day, and Bangladesh’s pedigree as an international side, few gave Scotland a hope still, but two early wickets and parsimony throughout kept them in the hunt.
Greaves struck with his first ball, Shakib Al Hasan pulling a long hop to deep midwicket for a 28-ball 20, and his side seized on the opening, eventually securing victory by six runs and immediately drawing the plaudits of the cricketing world.
Top comeback by @CricketScotland from 53/6. What a win!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾#T20WorldCup

While the quality of Scotland’s performance wasn’t in doubt, how to quantify it was. Given how assured they looked, did it count as an upset?

#Scotland beating #Bangladesh is not a surprise. This is an improved and rejuvenated Scotland side in the last few years. The self belief of this side is immense. #BANvSCO #T20WorldCup

To be clear, this is not an upset. Scotland are a good T20I side. #BANvSCO #T20WorldCup

This was Scotland’s second win in 22 attempts at the World Cup stage, but their second in two games after beating Hong Kong in their final fixture at the 2016 World T20, and there was plenty of reflection on what the result meant for the team as a whole.
Scotland in 2018 were close to directly qualify for T20 World Cup and avoid the Qualifier in UAE in 2019. They were number 11 in the rankings at that time. One of the better Associate teams that can beat anyone on its day. Their thrilling win over BD has thrown Group B wide open.

Pre-WC, Coetzer was asked about Scotland's various World Cup heartbreaks. He said beating HK in 2016 got the monkey off their back of not winning WC games.
"Believing we are capable of winning big games and performing better under pressure is a key area for us."
Good on them.

This is a low-key one way grudge match.
Scottish cricket still hasn’t gotten over the fact that Bangladesh beat them in ‘99 WC and leapfrogged them in Test queue so quickly.
The Gavin Hamilton run out is still upsetting to many.

Really hope that Gavin Hamilton and all the past Scotland players are smiling tonight. Kind of fitting that Greaves played such a big part in this too, as Scotland have always had such a strong club cricket culture.

Given Greaves’ all-round show, there was plenty of praise for him, but other members of the Scottish team received kind words too.
There will be a few more analysts checking out Chris Greaves now…..

Safyan Sharif wouldn't have been able to defend 24 from the last over were it not for that six he hit from his first ball when Scotland batted. Clutch player.

An amazing win over the sixth best side in the world – Scotland have an attack that's more than capable of ruffling a few more feathers this tournament. Loved Watt's variations in particular…

In the end, perhaps the result was guaranteed, based on the strength of Scotland’s kit alone!
