In all, Pakistan have won 19 out of 34 matches, winning the second edition of the T20 WC in 2009. Runners up in the 2007 edition, they also reached the semi-finals in 2010 and 2012.

The side will be led by Babar Azam, with Shadab Khan being named vice-captain.

The team began their campaign against India on October 24, also winning their match against New Zealand, and follow it by playing Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia.

T20 World Cup 2021: Pakistan squad news and updates

Pakistan announced a finalised 15-member squad on October 8, making a few changes from the team that was initially selected. Sarfaraz Ahmed and Haider Ali replaced Azam Khan and Mohammad Hasnain from the list that was initially selected. Fakhar Zaman, who was part of the travelling reserves, was added to the main side, replacing Khusdil Shah, who now moves into the standby list.

It was also announced that Sohaib Maqsood’s inclusion will be taken after medical advice. On October 9, it was announced that Shoaib Malik will take Maqsood’s place, with the latter suffering from a lower-back injury. Malik is one of the few international players who also featured in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2oo7.
