The ICC announced 20 referees and umpires for the first two rounds of the event, which will be held in the UAE and Oman. Umpire Nitin Menon remains the lone Indian representative, while Javagal Srinath is one of the four match referees who have been named for the T20 World Cup 2021.
Experienced umpires Chris Gaffaney of New Zealand and South Africa’s Marais Erasmus will be the two on-field umpires when India take on Pakistan on October 24. Richard Illingworth will be the third umpire, with David Boon as the referee.
Erasmus, along with Aleem Dar and Rod Tucker will be standing in their sixth men’s T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka’s Kumar Dharmasena, who officiated the finals of the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2019 will be the umpire for the first game of the tournament, between Oman and Papua New Guinea, alongside Gaffaney, with Richard Kettleborough the TV umpire and Ranjan Madugalle the match referee.
This is for the first time since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic that neutral umpires will be officiating the 45 matches that are scheduled to be held during the edition that ends on November 14.
The ICC is yet to announce the match officials for the semi-finals and the finals of the T20 World Cup 2021.
