Ireland’s maiden appearance in T20 World Cups came in 2009 (alongside Netherlands), but the side hasn’t progressed past the group stages of the tournament. Their best performance came in their debut year, when they progressed to the Super 8s. Overall, the team has won three out of 15 T20 WC matches.
As part of the pre-T20 World Cup preparation, the side played three T20Is against UAE (preceded by a warm-up game against Scotland). They also play two official warm-up matches, against PNG and Bangladesh.

T20 World Cup 2021: Ireland news and updates
On September 8, Ireland announced their final T20 World Cup squad, modifying the 18-man provisional squad that they had announced earlier.
The side will be led by Andy Balbirnie, who suffered a toe injury during a game against UAE on October 10, and is awaiting X-ray results to ascertain the extent of the damage. While the X-ray ruled out a fracture, the support staff has started “intensive training” to get him ready for the tournament.
Shane Getkake, Barry McCarthy and Graham Kennedy are part of the reserves list. The top two teams from Round 1 of the tournament will progress to the Super 12s.
