The Australian side, winner of five ODI World Cups, are yet to win a single T20 WC title. Their best-ever result was in 2010, when they finished runners-up, losing to England in the final. Overall, they have played 29 games in the tournament since 2007, winning 16 and losing 13, which gives them a win percentage of 55.17.

The side has been in the news recently, with players critical of head coach Justin Langer and his coaching methods. They recently lost the T20I series against West Indies and Bangladesh, but the return of big stars will serve as a big boost.

Australia will begin its T20 World Cup campaign by taking on South Africa on October 23 in Abu Dhabi.

Update: Mitchell Starc suffered an injury on his right leg during practice ahead of their Super 12 game against Sri Lanka on October 28. He is a doubtful starter for the clash, although he returned to practice on the 27th with a strapped leg.

The 15-member squad has three specialist batters in Finch, David Warner, and Steve Smith, with as many as four all-rounders. Josh Inglis, who is yet to make his Australia debut, has been selected in the squad over ODI vice-captain Alex Carey. Matthew Wade, however, remains the first-choice wicketkeeper.
