The T20 World Cup is divided into two rounds. The first round has two groups – A and B of four teams each. The Super 12 will have two groups – 1 and 2 of six teams each. Each side gets two points for a win, 1 point for a tie/abandonment/no result.

The first game of the T20 World Cup was played on October 17, 2021, between Oman and Papua New Guinea of Group B. The teams that made it to the next round were Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Namibia, Scotland.

The top two teams from Groups 1 and 2 will make it to the semi-finals. The winner of these semi-finals will then battle it out for the T20 World Cup final.
The T20 World Cup final is on November 14, 2021. Group 1 has the likes of Australia, former champions England, present title holders West Indies, and South Africa. Group 2 has the inaugural victors India and the winners of 2009 edition, Pakistan. At present, the other sides in the group are New Zealand and Afghanistan.
Three Test-playing nations- Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh are a part of the qualifying Groups A and B. They’ll join the likes of Oman, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Namibia, and The Netherlands in these groups. Zimbabwe is the only Test-playing nation that isn’t a part of the T20 World Cup 2021.
