According to a BBC report, three Kashmiri students were arrested for allegedly celebrating Pakistan’s win in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The three students were also reportedly suspended by their college for posting WhatsApp statuses in praise of Pakistani cricketers.
The police report on the ‘incident’ was quoted by Quint as saying that the three students “raised anti-national slogans of ‘Bharat Tere Tukde Honge’, Pakistan Zindabad, and put up anti-India slogans on social media through their WhatsApp status. These people are trying to stir tension, which might spoil the atmosphere of the country.”
A report from the Press Trust of India (PTI) suggests that they were not the only Indian Muslims to be arrested for supporting Pakistan. PTI reported that a teacher in Rajasthan lost her job and was subsequently arrested for sharing a celebratory post in support of Pakistan on WhatsApp.
