What seemed like banter at the start, with Amir ‘checking up on’ Harbhajan following the defeat, soon turned into an ugly verbal exchange that ended with the former India spinner reminding Amir of his involvement in the Pakistan spot-fixing scandal of 2010, which resulted in Amir receiving a five-year ban.

It all started when Amir tagged Harbhajan in a tweet asking how the off-spinner was coping after winning 12 straight matches against Pakistan in all World Cups.

Harbhajan did not take kindly to the mention. He responded by shared a clip of him hitting a six off Amir in the 2010 Asia Cup to help India over the line with the caption:“Ab Tum bi bologe @iamamirofficial yeh 6 ki landing tumhare ghar k tv par to nahi hui thi ?? Koi nahi hota hai end of the day it’s a game of cricket as u rightly said.”

In reply, Amir posted a clip of Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi hitting Harbhajan for four sixes in four balls during the Lahore Test in 2006, and taunted Harbhajan by saying, “me busy tha
@harbhajan_singh apki bowling dekh raha tha test jab LaLA ne apko 4 bowls pe 4 sixes mare thay but cricket hai lag sakte but test cricket me thora ziada ho gia tha.”

(I was busy watching Harbhajan Singh’s bowling when he was hit for four sixes in four balls by Shahid Afridi. It can happen in cricket, but being hit for so many runs in a Test match is a bit too much).

Harbhajan then responded by posting a still of Amir’s infamous overstep at the 2010 Lord’s Test.

“Lords mai no ball kaise ho gya tha ?? Kitna liya kisne diya ? Test cricket hai no ball kaise ho sakta hai ? Shame on u and ur other supporters for disgracing this beautiful game.”

Amir, in turn, kept harping on about the sixes that Afridi had hit off Harbhajan, asking him to “run in fear.” “lagi pichware pe @harbhajan_singh k bhago bhago LALA aya hai.”

Harbhajan retorted with an image of Amir and continued to call him a “disgrace.”

“For people like you @iamamirofficial only Paisa paisa paisa paisa .. na izzat na kuch aur sirf paisa..bataoge nahi apne desh walo ko aur supporters ko k kitna mila tha .. get lost I feel yuk talking to people like you for insulting this game and making people fool with ur acts.”

In the last tweet, Harbhajan shared a video of an old game where he smashed Amir for a six, with the caption, “Fixer ko sixer.. out of the park @iamamirofficial chal daffa ho ja.”
