Toss update and summary: Bangladesh rocked by early wickets after being put in to bat

T20 World Cup 2021, Australia v Bangladesh – Live updates

Australia win! Quick finish to the game. Quicker than anything you’d see.

This could turn out to be one of the shortest games in the competition so far. Australia are coasting towards the target with the single-minded intent to demolish the target inside the powerplay.

Over 2: Australia 16-0, Openers look to go for their strokes

Not exactly a blazing start, but Finch looks to be in the mood to cannon everything away. It’s really a great chance to get the run-rate up and form back on track for these two.

Bangladesh 73 all out.

That’s it then. A disappointing end to Bangladesh’s innings, one which really typifies their journey so far. There were no partnerships, the batters did not adapt to the surface, and the Australia bowlers kept attacking.l

Starc has a smile on his face. He’s having fun bowling to the tailender Mustafizur.

Score: Over 11, Bangladesh 62-7, Bangladesh are collapsing, and fast

Shamim and Mahmudullah have done well to help Australia rebuild…just when I write that, Shamim is walking, beaten again by the pace of the ball and Zampa. Nothing really wrong with the approach, just that Australia have continued to press on from both ends. He traps Mahedi to take another, and the side is staring at a sub-100 total now.

Drinks break.

Score: Over 8, Bangladesh 47-5, Australia look to quickly get to the tail

Starc has been a touch erratic, bowling a few wides and straying in length as well. Shamim and Mahmudullah really have a task on their hands here. It’s a bit surprising though: Starc has been keeping it full-ish, but has players stationed for the late strokes behind square, and no one manning the outfield down the ground.

Ooh, that’s really harsh…

According to WinWiz, the probability of Australia winning stands at a whopping 93%.

Score: Over 6, Bangladesh 33-4, Further trouble for the batting side

Naim, who was looking so good, succumbs to an easy dismissal, and the Bangladesh side is really in all sorts of troubles now. Can Mahmudullah pull them out of this hole?

Without Shakib, the batting line-up really lacks bite.

Mitchell Starc in the World Cup so far: 5 wickets @ 19.80 in 4 games. For Australia to qualify, he’ll have a massive role to play. Also to, really shut the detractors. Among others, Shane Warne was scathing in his assessment of the Australia team.

Score: Over 4, Bangladesh 18-3, Naim looking in good touch

Despite the fall of wickets around him, Naim is looking in good nick, allowing the ball to come to him and then punching it away. They’d be heavily dependent on him today.

Maxwell has been a really good option to have in the powerplay for Australia. Doesn’t turn the ball much, but maintains tight lines and almost teases the batters to go after him.

The two trusted weapons of the Australian team being hailed by a former Aussie quick.

Over 2, Score: Bangladesh 6-2, Das, Sarkar depart

Another inside edge, another dismissal. The disappointment continues. Bangladesh is playing its first game here, and the slowness of the surface is probably a little different from what they have seen so far.

Mitchell Marsh is back in the side today, which seems to be a good call. For me, there can be further room made in the middle order, even if it means dropping Steve Smith and improving the balance of the side further.

Over 1, Score: Bangladesh 2-1, Starc makes the first dent

Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup has been harrowing so far, and as they enter their last match of this ICC tournament, there will be plenty to look back at. For Australia, there’s a lot to play for, and they will be looking to make this a big win, so that they can climb further up the group ladder.

Starc Strikes!

We’re in the first over of the game, and Starc has sent a yorker through the gates already. Carries a bit of inside edge along the way, and disturbs Liton Das’ timber for a duck.

10.00 UK time/14.00 Local Time: We’re all set to start. The openers are out in the middle.

The floating flags are stationed in their places, and it’s time for the anthems.

Bangladesh XI: Naim, Das, Sarkar, Rahim, Mahmudullah, Hossain, Hasan, Ahmed, Rahman, Islam

Australia XI: Warner, Finch, Marsh, Smith, Maxwell, Stoinis, Wade, Cummins, Starc, Zampa, Hazlewood

Mitchell Marsh is back for the Aussies, with Ashton Agar going out.

Toss: Australia have won the toss and chosen to field.

13.30 local time: We are minutes away from the toss, and the two teams are warming up on either side of the pitch.
