Friday (September 15) was not a memorable day for cricket players as every ongoing series threw up an injury concern. In South Africa, Travis Head, who was expected to be David Warner’s opening partner in the World Cup, fractured his left hand, adding to a long list of injury concerns for the Australians. Anrich Nortje’s back injury saw him miss the fourth ODI while Temba Bavuma suffered a hamstring niggle and also missed the game.
In England, Tim Southee fractured his right thumb while attempting to take a catch in the 14th over of England’s innings, while Daryl Mitchell dislocated his finger in the same innings.
Elsewhere, in the Asia Cup, Axar Patel received multiple blows on both his hands while batting, and has been ruled out of the final on Sunday, with Shardul Thakur replacing him. For Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana suffered a hamstring injury, while Pakistan could potentially be without Naseem Shah for the World Cup.
