Bangladesh-Netherlands clashes have been sporadic in cricketing history, with the two sides meeting only twice in ODIs. The Dutch prevailed when they met for the first time in a one-off match in 2010, while Bangladesh won the sole encounter at a World Cup in 2011.

Bangladesh have been far from their best in this World Cup, losing four games on the trot after beginning the tournament with a win against Afghanistan. A questionable batting order and an off-coloured bowling line-up haven’t helped their cause. To make matters worse, the feud between ousted veteran Tamim Iqbal and captain Shakib Al Hasan in the lead-up to the event has catalysed scrutiny of the side.

Meanwhile, Netherlands have fizzled out after causing the biggest upset in the tournament with a victory against South Africa. They look jaded after the World Cup record 309-run defeat against Australia. Although they have registered a single win – the same as Bangladesh, they look in better shape to edge past their opponents on October 28.
