Australia have met Netherlands at the World Cup twice, in 2003 and 2007, and won both matches comfortably, by 75 runs and 229 runs. They have never played against each other outside World Cup.

Australia are slowly finding their feat in this year’s campaign with successive wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan after losing to India and South Africa. During Australia’s last outing against Pakistan, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh blazed a 259-run opening stand, the second-highest in World Cup history, to help them post 367-9. The highest is 282 between Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga against Zimbabwe in 2011. Later, they bowled out Pakistan for 305 to seal the match by 62 runs.

Meanwhile, Netherlands recovered from 91-6, thanks to Sybrand Engelbrecht (70) and Logan van Beek (59), to post 262 against Sri Lanka, but failed to defend the total and lost the match by five wickets. They will look to spring another surprise inspired by their historic win against South Africa.
