Sri Lanka were reduced to 113-8 and had the side on the mat in the crucial match that would go some way in determining whether or not New Zealand would secure the fourth semi-final spot. Desperate to get the rivals out for a low score so they could attain a stronghold over their Net Run Rate, New Zealand took an atrocious review, the result of which left the fielders with a sheepish grin.

The full toss ball by Lockie Ferguson hooped into Chameera, who defended and got a big inside edge that deviated significantly into his pads. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips led the calls for a review, certain there was no bat involved, but Ultra Edge confirmed a considerable nick.

It left Tim Southee in splits while skipper Kane Williamson immediately put his hands to his mouth following the replays to hide his laughter. It brought New Zealand’s success rate with the DRS while bowling in the tournament to 22.22 per cent, which dropped further to 20 per cent after another unsuccessful review in the 32nd over.
