Iyer had not been in the best of forms in the competition, scoring 53*, 19, 33 and 4 in four innings thus far, with his struggles against the short ball also proving to be a headache for India. But he showed his skills against Sri Lanka with a stunning onslaught of 82 in 56 balls with a strike rate of 146.43 along with six sixes, including a massive 106-metre six.

During the fourth ball of the 36th over, Kasun Rajitha pitched the ball outside the off stump, which Iyer smacked over the bowler’s head and onto the second tier of the stands for a huge maximum.

His hit surpassed Glenn Maxwell’s mighty hit of 104-metre against New Zealand to become the biggest six of the World Cup. Iyer had also hit a 101-metre maximum against Afghanistan and is one of two players with a six distance bigger than 100 metres in the competition.

Fakhar Zaman (99 metres) and David Warner (98 metres) have hit the fourth and fifth biggest sixes respectively of this World Cup.
