India have limited part-time bowling options in their XI, with no batter in the top five bowling regularly. Previously, Virat Kohli and Rohit would be used on occasion, but neither has bowled a single delivery in over six years in ODIs.
Acknowledging that an additional part-time spinner could be useful as the World Cup progresses, Rohit was seen bowling his off-spinners at the nets on Tuesday (August 17), ahead of the game against Bangladesh, which is scheduled to be held in Pune on October 19.
In a video shared by Star Sports, R Ashwin closely monitored his extended bowling session. Rohit was seen bowling to Ravindra Jadeja, who played him out without much trouble.
Rohit has picked up eight ODI scalps, which include Michael Clarke, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy (twice) and Chris Gayle. He also has two Test wickets and one wicket in T20Is.
