Afghanistan opted for a measured approach after electing to bat first. They steadily racked up the runs, thanks to an unbeaten 129 (143) from Ibrahim Zadran, their first individual hundred in the World Cup. Rashid Khan arrived at the crease in the 46th over, with his team at 233-5, hoping to provide a late-flourish.

During the first ball of the 50th over, Rashid’s attempt to smack Mitchell Starc downtown resulted in a boundary to the third-man region off an edge. The third ball of the over disappeared for a six as Rashid flexed his muscles, pounding Starc over long-off with a flat-batted swat.

Rashid again used the long handle in the penultimate ball to hit the left-arm seamer for another maximum. It was a breathtaking shot as the batter crouched low without watching the ball correctly but still managed to middle it over deep square for a six. His unbeaten cameo of 35 off 18 propelled Afghanistan to 291-5, setting up the biggest-ever target at Wankhede.
