Watch: Pat Cummins bowled Virat Kohli to dent India’s resistance during the 2023 World Cup final at Ahmedabad.

The first innings of the showpiece clash had already swayed to and fro. Mitchell Starc had had Shubman Gill caught at mid-on for four to kick things off after Pat Cummins opted to bowl in the 2023 World Cup final, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rohit Sharma then took charge, slamming 41 in 31 balls with four fours and three sixes before Travis Head caught him brilliantly off Glenn Maxwell. Four balls later, Shreyas Iyer inside-edged Pat Cummins to wicketkeeper Josh Inglis.

As India slid from 76-1 to 81-3, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul took their time on a tricky pitch with variable bounce. They did not take any risks as India did not hit a boundary for 97 balls before Rahul eventually scooped Maxwell to the fine-leg fence.

Kohli reached fifty for the 122nd time in his ODI career (including 50 hundreds). But he could not convert this time. On 54, Cummins angled a ball into him from just short of a good length, cramping Kohli for room.

Kohli looked to angle the ball down, but the ball held in the surface for a fraction of a second. Already committed to the back foot, he brought his bat down, and the ball took the edge and hit the stumps.
