Watch: Pat Cummins lost the plot in the 28th over of India’s innings, dishing a no-ball which landed outside the pitch, a wide down the leg side, and a free hit that was smashed for four by Virat Kohli in the India-Australia World Cup match in Chennai today (October 8).

India’s run-chase of 200 got off to a rocky start. Ishan Kishan edged behind to first slip for a golden duck in the first over, before Josh Hazlewood took two wickets in the second over, removing both Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer to land India in deep trouble.
With the score reading 2-3, India needed to rebuild. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul combined to do just that, stitching a mammoth 165-run fourth-wicket partnership.
Kohli scored an uncharacteristically slow half-century, making 85 off 116 balls, while Rahul remained unbeaten on 97, taking India home with six wickets and more than eight overs to spare.
In the 28th over of the innings, Australia captain Cummins was involved in an interesting duel with Kohli which he clearly lost. The fourth ball of the over was a no-ball that ended up landing outside the pitch as Cummins tried to deliver a slower ball.
Cummins attempted another slower ball, this time a bouncer, for the free-hit delivery, but it ended up sliding down the leg side for a wide, extending the free-hit onto the next delivery.
Finally Cummins bowled a legitimate ball on a length on the stumps that sat up nicely for Kohli who stood his ground and slogged it over mid-wicket for four. The three-ball sequence (one legitimate ball) fetched India six runs.
Cummins finished with figures of 0-33 from his 6.2 overs as Australia weren’t able to capitalize on the start they got in the second innings.
