Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan, the England openers, got away to a rapid start after Shakib Al Hasan opted to bowl in Dharamsala, adding 117 in 107 balls. Playing his 100th ODI, Bairstow made a 59-ball 52 before he was bowled by Shakib.

Joe Root then joined Malan and England continued to pile on the runs despite a flurry of bowling changes by Shakib. After 22 overs, England were 140-1.

Shakib recalled Mustafizur Rahman, his spearhead, at this point. Having opened bowling, Mustafizur had conceded 28 from his first four overs.

Mustafizur ran in to bowl from the over the wicket, but Root moved away at the last moment. At that point, Mustafizur was into his pre-delivery leap. Unlike some, who would have got through their action, he decided to abort the action mid-leap, tumbled, and fell over.

He did not get up immediately, and the Bangladesh team physiotherapist rushed out. However, after some treatment, he got back on to his feet, resumed bowling, conceded three in the over, and two more in his next over.
