An explosive century from opener Quinton de Kock set the tone for South Africa. It looked like a total of over 350 was on the cards but Australia crawled back in with some fine bowling, restricting their opponents to 311-7. Pat Cummins’ men were sloppy on the field, dropping several catches.

Starc was having an off day before he came to bowl the last over. Despite leaking 53 runs from his eight overs, he made amends for his lacklustre outing with a double-wicket maiden. He first claimed the wicket of Marco Jansen before later claiming the wicket of Miller.

David Miller, who was batting on 17 (11), took the strike hoping to deliver some late blows. By that time, the left-arm-quick had already shifted to his death-over mode. Giving no slack to South Africa, he landed a wide yorker into the footmarks, popping past the bat. Starc went for the sucker punch on the fourth ball of the over. A wicked late in-swinging yorker hit Miller’s stumps to send him packing. He finished the innings on a high with two dots to round off a double wicket maiden.
