Batting first, Bangladesh openers Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan started well. The duo teed off to put on a breezy 93-run-opening stand, the highest ever for Bangladesh in the 50-over competition. Kuldeep Yadav drew first blood for India in the 14th over by dismissing Tanzid for 51 (43). Meanwhile, Litton ended with 66 off 82.

Bangladesh suffered a mini-collapse, losing four quick wickets for 36 runs. Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim steadied the ship with a busy 38 but eventually got out via a Ravindra Jadeja screamer at point off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling. Mahmudullah, the finisher for his team, played some glorious shots, hitting three fours and as many boundaries. He declined a single off the last ball in the penultimate over to keep the strike.

Bumrah, 1-33 off his nine overs, came on to bowl the 50th over. The first delivery was a dot. He fired the next delivery in the blockhole and Mahmudullah couldn’t get his bat down in time. The ball breezed past his bat to shatter the stumps. He departed for a well-crafted 46 (36). Bangladesh posted 256-8 after Mustafizur Rahman capped off the innings with a last-ball six
