Watch: Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis smashed a 59-ball hundred with the help of nine sixes in the 2023 World Cup warm-up clash against Afghanistan on October 3.

Mendis walked out at No.3 in the sixth over of the innings after opener Dimuth Karunaratne departed. He started off cautiously, scoring three in his first nine balls, before racing to 36 in 23, hitting two sixes and a four in Azmatullah Omarzai’s second over of the match.

He brought up his first fifty in 30 deliveries and took only 29 more balls to bring up his next fifty, getting to the landmark in the 21st over of the innings. After reaching the landmark, he took on Rashid Khan, hitting him for three maximums in the space of six balls.

Mendis went on to score 158 in 87, with the help of 19 fours and nine sixes, at a strike rate of 182, before retiring. Sri Lanka were all out for 294, with Mohammad Nabi ending with 4-44.
