England were in trouble chasing 230 to win against the table toppers. They lost their first two wickets in consecutive balls from Jasprit Bumrah, before Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow were both bowled by Mohammad Shami. With os Buttler and Moeen Ali at the crease, Rohit Sharma turned to left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the 14th over.

From the first ball of his second over, Kuldeep bowled an absolute ripper to the England captain. He tossed the ball up outside the off stump, and Buttler looked to go back to and cut into the off side. However, the ball span dramatically back into him and snaked in between his bat and pad.

The ball then crashed into the top of middle stump and Buttler was left leaning on his bat with the Zing bails rolling along the ground behind him. Kuldeep took off in celebration with his arms outstretched before he was embraced by Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.

Buttler walked back to the dressing room with his team five down and facing a fourth consecutive loss – five in six games – at the 2023 World Cup. England are currently at the bottom of the table having only recorded one win from their five games so far.
