Asked to bat at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, India recovered from 40-3 to reach 229-9, thanks to Rohit Sharma (87 in 101 balls), KL Rahul (39 in 58), and Suryakumar Yadav (49 in 47).
For England, David Willey returned 3-45, Adil Rashid 2-45, and Chris Woakes 2-33.
The England openers added 30 before double strikes from each of Jasprit Bumrah (3-32) and Mohammed Shami (4-22) left them reeling at 39-4. They eventually made 129.
India have now won all six of their matches, while England have lost five of their six. Barring low-probability permutations, India have qualified for the semi-finals, while England have been eliminated.
However, England still have their eyes on a place in the top eight, which will guarantee them a place in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
After the match, T Dilip, the Indian fielding coach, announced the best Indian fielder of the day, as he has been doing throughout this edition of the World Cup.
In the now-traditional format, he shortlisted substitute fielder Ishan Kishan, Mohammed Siraj, and Rahul before taking the squad outside, where the stadium lights illuminated to reveal the name of the winner.
Upon receiving the award from Shreyas Iyer, Rahul bit the medal, Olympics-style, at the home venue of Lucknow Super Giants, the IPL side he leads.
