Coming to bowl the 35th over, Bumrah delivered a heavy ball on the length, landing it on off-stump. All-rounder Shadab Khan, who was new at the crease, had no answer to the snorter. He played down the wrong line and the delivery straightened after pitching on the surface. The ball clipped his off-stump, sending him packing for an uneventful 2 (5).

India bowled out Pakistan for 191 after opting to field first in the high-voltage match in Ahmedabad. Pakistan brought up 150-2 inside 30 overs, with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan well set at the crease. A vicious delivery from pacer Mohammed Siraj sent Babar packing for a well-made 50, his first against India. The dismissal of Babar triggered a collapse as Pakistan slipped from 155-3 to 191-all out in the blink of an eye.

The hosts had a collective bowling performance, with five bowlers picking up two wickets each. Bumrah was the pick of the lot, taking 2-19 off his seven overs. He is now the leading wicket-taker in the 2023 edition of the quadrennial show, scalping eight wickets in three innings at an average and an economy of 11.62 and 3.44, respectively. Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry follow next with as many wickets as Bumrah but have an inferior bowling average.
